Monica Morris
Monica is an acrylic and mixed media artist. She was born and raised in Wisconsin and has been living in Wichita for the past 17 years with her husband, 2 kids and 4 cats.
She works mostly in abstraction and her vibrant, atmospheric works exist somewhere between the familiar and the imagined.
Holding a BA in Fine Arts from LSU Shreveport and a BFA in Art Education from Wichita State University, Monica served as an art educator for 10 years. While no longer teaching, Monica has shifted her focus and efforts into creating her own work. She received an Honorable Mention at the School of Creativity Salon Exhibition at Mark Arts in the spring of 2025, exhibited her work in a show at Harvester Arts in January of 2026, and won Best in Show at the School of Creativity Salon Exhibition at Mark Arts in the spring of 2026. She was also a 2026 Artist, Inc. Fellow in Wichita, Kansas.
Monica’s ongoing exploration of new processes and materials keeps her work in constant evolution, ensuring her artistic voice remains curious and engaging.

I am an abstract expressionist painter guided by intuition. Each piece begins with written words or marks that become the invisible foundation of the work. From there, I build layer upon layer of color and gesture, often blending hues to create an atmospheric quality. My process is meditative and deeply introspective, and the earliest stages are often the most vulnerable. Through my work, I hope to offer a quiet space to dwell—and if you look closely, you might see the pieces of myself that I have left behind.
